MONROE - Monroe High School students attended the Wisconsin State Music Association Solo and Ensemble Festival and performed for ratings from one to five with "one" signifying a great performance. No student from MHS received any lower than a rating of two.
Two students became the first from MHS ever to be nominated for and awarded the "Exemplary Soloist Award" during the festival: senior soprano Ellis Erb and sophomore flutist Maggie Setterstrom.
Each year, more than 100,000 students participate in the WSMA Festival held at college campuses across the state, representing every county. Of these state performances, 918 soloists were nominated for an Exemplary Soloist Award and 610 students were selected.
The awards were announced in early May and then were mailed to the students.
