100th anniversary for Kubly Sunday

NEW GLARUS - Sunday is the hundredth anniversary of the birth of New Glarus author Herbert Kubly. In memory of Kubly, a retrospective of his life and work will be held at 2 p.m. at Puempel's Olde Tavern, 18 5th Ave.

Kubly was the first Wisconsin author to win the National Book Award for his first book, American In Italy, published in 1955. The award was presented by his friend then-Senator John F. Kennedy.

Anyone who knew Herb or would like to know more about his life and work is invited to attend.
