On April 28, the New Glarus school board welcomed two new members and elected new officers for the upcoming year. The board is excited about the challenges ahead and would like to take this opportunity to thank the citizens of the New Glarus School District as well as the school administration, teachers and staff for their support.
The board is keenly aware of the issues that have surrounded the district in the past relating to compliance with the State Open Meetings Law. We want the constituents of the New Glarus School District to know that although the board never intended to misinform or mislead the public, we have a renewed sense of purpose in improving the level of openness between the district and the public.
So, what do we do from here? First, the school board and the district are strongly committed to keeping the public informed and encouraging citizen involvement in the schools. The school board's activities have been reviewed and critiqued by our legal advisors and the appropriate improvements made. We also recently voted to continue to use the Post Messenger Recorder as the official newspaper of the district. Please know that we will do our best to get meeting notices and minutes published in the newspaper in a timely manner. We will strive to be as accurate and timely as possible with these publications. But always, updated meeting notices will be posted and distributed to representatives of the media before our meetings, as required by law.
Second, the school board and the district welcome the attention of the media to help us get our message across and keep the public informed. Accurate and consistent media coverage of school board meetings as well as other school functions is critical in helping keep the public informed about school operations.
Lastly, we encourage the public to participate in our activities and contact the school board or administrative team with concerns, comments and questions. Please look at our new Web site (http://www.ngsd.k12.wi.us) or contact a board member if you are looking for information.
Thanks for reading our letter. We will be communicating with you regularly and letting you know about our current and future activities.
- Signed by Marty Andersen, Virginia Dreier-Schween, Paul Eichelkraut, David Noyce, Mary Anne Oemichen, Mark Romich and Larry Stuessy.
