Letter to the Editor: Losing cab service a scary thought
Newspaper 2

From Marjorie Stocker

Monroe

To the editor:

The owner of the Monroe Cab Company and the City of Monroe should be ashamed of themselves. The Cab Co. has lost five drivers in the past few weeks. The remaining drivers are working 6 days a week with no overtime. The drivers tell me that they only make $9 an hour with no benefits and no overtime.

It scares me, to think the remaining driver might decide to quit and also the dispatcher. What will happen to us older folks and the disabled if there is no cab service? I’m 88 years old and disabled so I can’t walk to the clinic or grocery store.

Please treat the remaining drivers with a raise and some overtime and give an incentive for more drivers. I know you want to make money but please be fair to our drivers. You may get old and can’t drive and need our cab service.

If you need to raise our cost of a ride (which I hope you don’t) go ahead, but think twice about us old and disabled folks who worked many years for the money we get.
