Residents of Green County are very lucky to have Tammy Derrickson in our community. One of the highlights of 2015 for me was the Oct. 4 Salute to Vietnam Era Veterans event put on by Tammy and the staff and volunteers at the City of Monroe Behring Senior Center. I have talked to many veterans and their families since that event and all comments were extremely complimentary. The guest speakers of Peter Finnegan, Steve Saunders, Junior Robertson, and Clayton Ruegsegger were all excellent.
Especially meaningful was the recognition of the seven young men from Green County who lost their lives in the Vietnam War. The lives of Kris Blumer, Kenneth Lee Keller, John Thomas Krebs Jr., Marvin Pederson, Roger Ritschard, Ronald Schmid and David W. Timm were memorialized very well by Kay Krebs (a sister of one of the fallen). The video was done first class. Jack Oostdik and Mayor Bill Ross also made excellent presentations. The displays out in the entranceway to the Monroe Performing Arts Center were also well done. I talked to several families and they were so grateful to have this recognition of their extreme sacrifice.
