I'd like to recognize, and thank the following people who were instrumental in presenting an informational meeting Nov. 15, 2017, to address the topic "Green County Confronting a Crisis" relating to the current epidemic of Heroin, and other drug abuse, throughout the USA.

Thank you to Cindy McKeown: 2017-18 president, Monroe Morning Optimist Club: who led the audience in reciting the Optimist Creed to model future behavior:
Then a huge thank you to Laura Gutierrez, Secretary of the Wisconsin Dept. of Safety and Professional Services who spoke to the Wisconsin State's position on this issue, especially the introduction of a "drug prescription monitoring program" to give prescribing physicians (prior to prescribing new pain medication) a history of frequency of use in individual patients, and thus limit availability of excess pain medications.
To Dr. David Murdy MD, Dean Janesville, and Wisconsin State Medical Society BOD "Opiate Task Force" spokesperson, spoke of the steps the medical community is using in an attempt to control the prescribing of opiates and other pain medications; as well as other non-drug methods to relieve chronic pain problems
To Dr. David Rebedew, MD: who spoke to drug related Monroe Clinic Emergency Room experiences, and gave examples of multiple, often abused drugs, their side effects: To law enforcement officers who spoke to conditions in their respective communities, including Green County Sherriff Mark Rohloff: Police chiefs Fred Kelly Monroe: Szvon Conway Monticello: Burt Boldebuck New Glarus: and officer Brian Bennett Brodhead. To Bob Gibson, GC Human Services -Alcohol & Other Drug Services Supervisor and members of his Staff, including Nancy Richardson, who spoke of the counseling services provided at Green County Human Services; he also introduced members of the Green County AODA/Heroin work group, which has been meeting for over a year to find the best way to address this issue in green County To RoAnn Warden, RN, Director Green County Public Health Dept. She has been instrumental, with others in providing medications to counteract overdose situations, as well as the overall health of the Green County community. To Brian Boehm, Monroe Middle School Principal and staff for use of the building.
To the Monroe Times, and WEKZ Big Radio for their promotional efforts; and to the audience members, about 70 who learned about this situation. Thank you all.
