To the editor:
We are writing today to express our support for Howard Marklein for State Senate. We have been impressed by Howard's record in the legislature as an independent voice for southern Wisconsin. He has not been afraid to vote against his party and has worked to lower the tax burden, balance the budget, and ensure our quality of life in Wisconsin remains high.
We have also been impressed at Howard's effectiveness as a legislator, especially with his leadership in getting things done for the Monroe area. Specifically, Howard has authored bipartisan legislation to allow Green County to hold a referendum on Pleasant View nursing home, thereby helping them keep the doors open; bipartisan legislation to allow ATV access for bridges that will help the Cheese Country Trail; and bipartisan legislation to allow the city of Monroe to accept federal dollars for their wastewater treatment plant project, which will ease the burden on local taxpayers like us.
Overall, Howard is the best candidate due not only to his experience in the State Assembly, but also to decades of private sector experience as a CPA and Certified Fraud Examiner. You may recall it was Howard who found the UW's slush fund, which resulted in a tuition freeze for students. Howard grew up on a dairy farm and has lived in Wisconsin his entire life.
On the other hand, his opponent has only recently moved to Spring Green after living in the Milwaukee area and California. His opponent lacks any real world experience and has just recently graduated from law school.
