Friday, December 20, 2013 had a very icy beginning. It was our day to put out both garbage and recyclables. I tried to get my containers to the proper placement for pick up, but my driveway was just too slick even after heavy scattering of ice melt. I succeeded in getting the containers about three-quarters of the way down the driveway but kept sliding with them and feared falling. Not knowing what to do, I called the Street and Sanitation Department to ask for advice and perhaps help from the driver or a co-worker. My call was taken by a very kind, empathetic employee who assured me that she would report the need. A couple hours later both containers were picked up. Please convey a huge thank you to employees who displayed such concern for senior citizens needing help. Your Christmas attitude and Christian actions indeed are commendable. We in Monroe are so lucky to have these employees.
