From Jeff Skatrud
Town of Decatur
To the editor:
A couple of weeks ago, Patrick O’Brien of New Glarus posed a number of questions in a letter to the editor concerning my candidacy for Green County Sheriff. In response, I would challenge Mr. O’Brien to ask questions that are specific to the Office of Sheriff.
I’d be glad to answer how we carefully considered every expenditure and finished each year under budget.
I’d be glad to answer how we implemented electronic monitoring for jail inmates that required inmates to pay for their own monitoring and saved tens of thousands of dollars for Green County taxpayers.
I’d be glad to answer how hiring excellent employees, implementing up to date policies and providing outstanding training led to the dismissal of a lawsuit filed against the Green County Jail.
I’d be glad to answer how we worked with the community to purchase K-9 Ike totally through donations, worked with the Green County Crime Stoppers Board of Directors to implement real-time texting and emailing of crime tips and implementing Nixle, a system that provides the opportunity to text and email serious weather conditions, road closures and possible threats to Green County residents. Green County Fall Nationals also funded a system to track individuals that had a propensity to wander due to medical conditions.
Finally, I’d be glad to answer how working my way up through the ranks at the Green County Sheriff’s Department over a career of 32 years will benefit the citizens of Green County.
We can spend all day arguing about partisan politics but the answer is with the results.
I’m looking forward to the opportunity to serve you once again.
