Blossoms & Barbs: June 20, 2009

A big barb to the Albany Police Department. >My wife and I decided to go to the Yesteryears dance. We had never been to one before and thought we would check it out. Well, we were met on Main Street by one of Albany's best all dressed up in a white shirt. He asked us for our ID. I am 51 and my wife is 49. Now, my wife left her purse in the car and she was told she would have to walk back and get it or she would not be allowed in. So quess what, we went home and will never attend again. We will wait for Monticello's or Broadhead's doings. Come on, Albany board, get out and see what the taxpayers are paying for. - John Rego>

A gigantic, beautiful blossom to Megan Jorenby, Molly Campbell and all the dancers (and all the other behind-the-scenes personnel) >for putting on top-notch shows this weekend for the Studio M Dance Academy show, "Peace, Love & Dance." This was the first year my daughter was in the show, so it was the first time I've seen a recital. I was hugely impressed at the level of professionalism that was displayed by everyone involved. I can't wait until next year for the next fabulous show! It was a very exhausting weekend for parents and dancers and everyone involved in the show, but it was so well worth it! Congratulations and well done! - A Dance Mother>

A barb to the Monroe pool. >Just because some idiot and snow kept Monroe in school for an extra week doesn't mean other people who got out earlier don't want to swim! And, yes, I am a student. - Eli Schumacher>

All these negative comments toward the downtown businesses is sad, and it's not right to criticize them. I know they work hard and they do advertise. There is a Web site for Green County that they take part in, and some have their own Web sites. Not all businesses are closed on Sundays. Some are open certain hours, or by appointments due to the nature of the business. If their business was hurting, I'm sure they would know how to handle it. I give them all credit; they work just as hard as we do, or even harder. Let them decide when to be open. So here is a blossom to all the downtown businesses! >I enjoy shopping in your stores! Don't let these negative comments put you down. - Happy Resident>

A barb to the Times >for all the waste sent in the Saturday edition. We received two of each of the following: Aldi, Shopko, Pic 'n Save and Walgreens. Also, what little there is in the Buyers Guide, that could be left out altogether. Why not lower the price and leave it out. I thought we were supposed to be trying to save the environment. - Anonymous>

A huge, huge blossom to the Monroe Cheesemaker softball team, coach Buvid and his staff, parents and fans. >Ladies, you had a tremendous season. You proved to many people in the surrounding communities that you would make it to state once again and you did! That's great! You brought back a silver ball. Focus on bringing back a gold one next year. We have faith in you! Strive to do your best and have confidence in yourselves as next year comes around. Go Big Red! - One of Your Many Fans>
