This past weeks vote on whether Times online visitors agreed with Sarah Palin as John McCains running mate choice was interesting.
The final tally was that 165 people (56 percent) agreed with the choice, while 129 did not. Whats really telling is that when I came into the office last Thursday morning at 5 oclock, the results were even 40 people supporting and 40 people opposed.
And then the votes started coming in after Palins speech at the Republican National Convention. Since then, the vote was strongly in Palins and McCains favor with 125 voting yes and 89 voting no.
That would suggest that the local reaction to Palins speech was as positive as it seems to have been nationally. I also didnt notice any shift away from Palin support in the poll as she hit the campaign trail, avoiding interviews with the national press and repeating her convention speech in great part word for word.
It will be interesting to see how Palin fares in her first national interview with ABC on Thursday and Friday. It will be interesting to see what kind of questions Charlie Gibson asks.
This weeks question already has drawn more than 50 votes in the first five hours its been online. It asks which presidential or vice presidential candidate is most qualified to be president. Ill be watching the results with great interest for the next week.
