MJG: Week 5

OK, I have to admit I was wrong, wrong, wrong. I initially did not care for David Cook, but he continues to wow me - he rocked "Daytripper," which is not an easy song to get right.

And guess who's back? Sweet little David A. really came back strong with "The Long and Winding Road." He was in his element again - that's the kind of song he truly excels at. Even Simon thought it was "amazing!" I got the impression that these were the only two contestants who had ever even heard the Beatles, and their performances showed it.

Unfortunately, the rest were pretty forgettable.

Carly was unbelievable singing "Blackbird" - I would have liked to see Brooke do that beautiful ballad instead of "Here Comes the Sun."

Amanda's rendition of "Back in the USSR" was not good. At all. Jason Castro let me down - his performance was like a high school talent show.

Michael John's "A Day in the Life" wasn't a good choice. Great song, but too hard to sing.

Ramiele, Chickezie and Syesha were passable, but nothing great.

But the lamest of the lame was Kristy Lee - I've never heard a more painful rendition of "You've Got to Hide Your Love Away." Sorry Kristy, you've got to go.
