Mind if I talk a little about politics today?

A check of the latest list of registered candidates for federal, state and county offices in Wisconsin from the Wisconsin State Elections Board sorry, I mean, the Government Accountability Board yields no surprises.

The candidates in the State Assemblys 80th District remain Rep. Brett Davis, R-Oregon, and Democratic challengers John Waelti and Kristin Wisnefske, both of Monroe. Wisnefske and Davis filed their nomination papers Monday, according to GAB. Waelti filed his June 26. Davis had 375 valid signatures, while Wisnefske had 337 and Waelti 334.

Our office received a call a week or so ago from someone who claimed another person was considering a run in the district, but no one else has filed with the state.

Freshman Rep. Steve Hilgenberg, D-Dodgeville, in the 51st District, has no challenger in the September primary and there is one declared Republican candidate, Nathan R. Russell of Sauk City.

State Sens. Dale Schultz, R-Richland Center, and Jon Erpenbach, D-Waunakee, are not up for re-election this year.

Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin, D-Madison, filed her re-election nomination papers July 2. Dave St. Amant, who has announced his candidacy as a Democrat, has not yet filed, according to the GAB. He made a declaration of candidacy April 3. Republican Peter Theron from Madison filed his nomination papers Monday.

Local District Attorneys Gary Luhman (Green County, Republican) and Charlotte Doherty (Lafayette County, Democrat) have filed nomination papers, and likely will run unopposed.

Ive put a link below if youre interested in checking out the rest of the GAB list.

The Rev. Jesse Jackson has been getting pummeled the past 24 hours for his off-the-air but on-the-mic comments about Barack Obama after Fox News interview last Sunday. Jackson says he didnt know the microphone was on when he criticized Obama for not talking about issues important to the black community, saying it made him want to cut his nuts off.

I think I can say nuts here, cant I? Its almost comical watching Wolf Blitzer and others dance around the word on the air. Why cant they just say the word?!

Anyway ...

Ive been wondering whether Fox News would share such an off-the-air comment if it were, say, Mitt Romney saying something derogatory and crude about John McCain.

What do you think?
