The Monroe Cheesemakers Youth Basketball Camp took place July 19-23. Head Girls Basketball Coach Patrick Kenny, his assistant Bill Dehn, and many high school players helped young athletes from Green County learn the fundamentals of basketball.

Gators make waves at Dubuque YMCA Quad Meet

DUBUQUE — The Gators Swim Team attended a quad meet hosted by Dubuque Dolphins on Saturday, Dec. 7. The closed YMCA meet included the Maquoketa Marlins and Black Hawk County Pirates swim teams. The Gators took 4th place with all 14 swimmers earning points for a combined score of 179. 

Lauren Kosmosky and Remi Zilliox earned the most individual points for the team with 23 each. Lauren (11) took 1st place in the girls 11-12 100 IM with a time of 1:27.47Y. She also took 2nd place in girls 11-12 50 Free, 33.32Y and girls 11-12 50 Breaststroke, 45.69Y. Remi (11) earned 1st place in boys 11-12 50 Butterfly, 54.85Y. He also placed 2nd in the boys 11-12 50 Free, 37.20Y and the boys 11-12 100 IM, 1:41.24Y. 

Gators had two athletes swim state YMCA qualifying times. Korali Zilliox (6) swam state qualifying times in all three of her individual events, placing 2nd in the girls 8U 25 Breaststroke, 33.50Y; 3rd place in the girls 8U 25 Free, 20.70Y; and 5th place in girls 8U 25 Backstroke, 25.37Y. Sadie Wellman (8) also qualified for state in all three of her individual events and placed 3rd in girls 8U 25 Free, 23.71Y; girls 8U 50 Backstroke, 58.82Y; girls 8U 25 Breaststroke, 33.84Y. 

Other big contenders for the Gators included Cyrus Akins (11) taking 1st place in boys 11-12 50 Backstroke, 49.43Y and 3rd place in boys 11-12 50 Breaststroke, 56.73Y. Olivie Akins (9) taking 2nd place in both girls 9-10 50 Butterfly 59.91Y and girls 11-12 100 IM, 1:55.20Y. Olivia Hustad (9) took 2nd in girls 9-10 100 Backstroke, 1:45.36Y, 3rd in girls 9-10 50 Backstroke, 47.41Y and 3rd in girls 9-10 100 IM, 1:56.42Y. Stella Rolli (11) earned 2nd place in girls 11-12 100 Breaststroke, 1:47.05Y and 3rd place in girls 11-12 50 Free, 34.38Y. Toby Stietz (10) earned 3rd place in boys 9-10 50 Backstroke, 56.53Y.
