Wiota clips Monroe in playoffs

MONROE - Wiota's Rooney Janecke came back to haunt his former team with a two-run single in the first inning that helped the Indians knock off Monroe 3-2 in the Home Talent League Western Section playoffs Sunday, Aug. 4.

Janecke served as a coplayer-manager with Monroe for several years, before switching back to play with Wiota.

Monroe pitcher Ben Conway tossed eight innings. He gave up three runs on 10 hits, while striking out seven and walking three.

Wiota (12-5) advances to play Verona in the second round of the playoffs Sunday, Aug. 11.

Wiota's Jeff Solberg pitched six innings and earned the win. He gave up one earned run on five hits. Solberg stuck out four and walked three.

Wiota's Jay Haldiman went 3-for-3 to lead the Indians. Janecke was 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Monroe's Kris Rieder went 2-for-3 and Mitch Marty was 2-for-4.



Blanchardville 8, Ridgeway 3

BLANCHARDVILLE - Blanchardville ace pitcher Michael Pleimling pitched a complete game and struck out 11 to lead Blanchardville to an 8-3 win over Ridgeway.

Blanchardville's Mike Cleary went 3-for-4 and Theron Theobald was 2-for-5. The Bullets pounded out 14 hits. Other players with multi-hit games included Milton Kurschner (2-for-3), Devin Jeglum (2-for-5), Pleimling (2-for-5) and Justin Bollerud (2-for-5).

With the win, Blanchardville (12-5) advances to the second round of the playoffs, where they will play at Argyle (12-4) Sunday, Aug. 11.
