MONROE - Three area basketball players were selected to the all-tournament team in the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association 23rd annual Prep Showcase Sept. 23 at Just A Game Fieldhouse in the Wisconsin Dells.
The three area players who made the 11-player all-tournament team include Black Hawk sisters sophomore Hannah Butler and freshman Bailey Butler, as well as Darlington senior Kennedy Rankin.
There were 53 girls who competed in the showcase that had multiple Division II and Division III college basketball coaches on hand.
Bailey Butler led Team 3 to the tournament title and was named the most valuable player. She will team with a Black Hawk girls basketball team that went 21-1 last year.
"I just wanted to get to know everyone, play my best and win," Bailey said. "I was excited. It's a huge goal (to play in college)."
The showcase was open to all girls basketball players. The registration fee was $90 and participants received a T-shirt and Gatorade.
Hannah Butler averaged 15.8 points and 5.2 rebounds per game last year for the Warriors. She shot a second-best 39.6 percent from 3-point range last season.
"It was good competition up there," Hannah said. "Going in, I was expecting it to be really hard. I was really excited to be on the all-tournament team. It feels great. It's just great to know we can do some things and we may get to play basketball in college."
Rankin, at 6-foot, is a proven versatile three-sport athlete who is drawing interest from several colleges.
Rankin said she has colleges looking at her for basketball and volleyball.
"Knowing I was one of the better players there got me even more excited for the basketball season," Rankin said. "It's an amazing feeling."
Two of Rankin's Darlington girls basketball teammates - juniors Kathleen Mathias and Kaylee Myers also competed in the showcase. Mathias played on the championship team with Bailey Butler.
The Redbirds made a run to the WIAA Division 3 sectional championship game last year where they lost to La Crosse Aquinas 64-40.
"It was really a great experience," Rankin said of the showcase.
Having three players from the area make the all-tournament team is special for the Butler sisters.
"I think it means people should come out and watch us and we will show them what we have and I hope you like what you see," Bailey said.
