MONROE - The Monroe boys soccer team continued its winning streak with a 6-1 nonconference win over Dodgeville-Mineral Point Saturday, Sept. 14.

Monroe (5-3-1, 2-0 Badger South) has won four straight games. Monroe senior Taylor Teasdale had two goals and two assists for the Cheesemakers. Monroe junior Kevin Noriega added two goals.

Teasdale scored his first goal on an assist from sophomore McKenzy Foley at 3 minutes, 39 seconds. Monroe's Ryne Miller was knocked down in the box about 6 minutes later. Teasdale took advantage, scoring his second goal on a penalty kick to give the Cheesemakers a 2-0 lead.

"We have been working a lot on finishing in practice," Monroe coach Tony Vasquez said. "They are taking advantage of the opportunities they are getting."

Noriega scored his first goal at 13:57 on an assist from Ian Salzwedel to give the Cheesemakers a 3-0 lead. Foley scored a goal on a pass from junior Dan Tinoco at 27:52 and Matt Coplien scored a goal on an assist from Teasdale at 34:16 to give the Cheesemakers a 5-1 lead at the half.

Noriega scored his second goal in the second half on a pass by Teasdale to put the game away at 73:44.

Monroe junior goalkeeper Austin Murphy had six saves.

"He's getting better every game," Vasquez said. "The shutouts have helped his confidence. He is taking charge of the defenders back there and getting to do what he wants them to do."

Vasquez said the key to the four-game winning streak has been playing their type of game and being consistent with the effort.

Monroe will host Milton in a Badger South showdown at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Honey Creek park. The Cheesemakers have tied the Red Hawks the last three times they have played.

"We know Milton will be tough," Vasquez said. "They will not give us as many opportunities as some of the teams we have played lately. We will have to take advantage of the ones we get."
