Sugar River grapples to second

LODI - The Sugar River wrestling team had five wrestlers finish in the top three to take second in the Capitol Conference Tournament on Saturday.

Lodi racked up 364 points to win the team title, which was well ahead of Sugar River (198.5).

Sugar River's John Chenoweth (138) was a conference champion, going 4-0 in the tournament. After a first and second-round byes, Chenoweth pinned Cambridge's Austin Donnelly in 1 minute, 38 seconds. In the title match, Chenoweth defeated Lodi's Hans Obois 9-5.

Three Sugar River wrestlers took second including Justin Knoebl (120), Max Gerner (126) and Tanner Jelle (195). Teammate Robert Chenoweth (113) placed third.

Knoebl, Gerner and Jelle each went 3-1 in the tournament. After two byes, Knoebl (24-10) beat Waterloo's Brandon Springer 14-3. Lodi's Garrett Moll then pinned him in the championship match in 4:33. Gerner (22-14) also received two byes. He then pinned Waterloo's Anthony Zimdars in 2:48. In the title match, Lodi's Colton Nicolay pinned Gerner in 3:14.

At 195, Jelle also had two byes. He then pinned Lakeside Lutheran's Phillip Treptow in 3:13. In the championship match, Lodi's J.P. Walterscheit pinned Jelle in 3:39.

Robert Chenoweth (113) went 4-1 in the tournament. He defeated Columbus' Abbey Stadler in a quarterfinal match 5-0. Lodi's Jacob Harland pinned him in the semifinals in 28 seconds. He bounced back to win two straight matches to take third. Chenoweth pinned Cambridge's Dakota Thompson in 3:10 and pinned Marshall's Cai Restler in 3:29 in a third-place match.



Evansville-Albany wins Rock Valley

EVANSVILLE - The Evansville-Albany wrestling team had five champions en route to winning the Rock Valley Conference Tournament Saturday.

Evansville-Albany rolled up 395.5 points to win the title in the 11 team conference tournament. Brodhead-Juda (242) finished fifth.

The conference champions for the Blue Devils included Chase Katzenmeyer (26-1) at 126, Bern Barmore (15-6 at 138), Nolan Kicmol (25-1) at 145, Lucius Rinehart (27-0) at 195 and Brandon Lange (29-10) at heavyweight.

Brodhead-Juda had four wrestlers finish in the top two of their respective weight classes. Jackson Hauri (132) won a conference title. Hauri (33-3) received a first-round bye and then pinned Whitewater's Tyler Pavlik in 21 seconds. He then pinned Evansville-Albany's Hunter Georgeson in 3:24. In the championship match, Hauri beat Beloit Turner's Cole Walker 12-3.

Brodhead-Juda's Kaleb Erb (145), Tyler Hoesly (182) and Trent Davis (heavyweight) each finished second. The trio of runner-up finishers for the Cardinals each finished the tournament 3-1.

After two byes, Erb defeated Parkview's Byron Brown 17-7. In the title match, Evansville-Albany's Kicmol defeated Erb in a technical fall 18-3 in 4:43.

After a first-round bye, Hoesly pinned East Troy's Jacob Price in 4:59. He then clipped Evansville-Albany's Austin Anderson 5-2. Whitewater's Jimmy DuVal edged Hoesly in the championship match 6-5. Davis got out to a strong start just like Hoesly.

After a first-round bye, Davis pinned Whitewater's Luis Ramirez in 3:17. He then pinned Edgerton's Ben Ruck in 3:53. Lange pinned Davis in the title match in 3:07.



BH-Darlington takes NINTH

RICHLAND CENTER - Black Hawk-Darlington had five wrestlers finish in the top six of their weight classes in the Southwest Wisconsin Conference-Southwest Wisconsin Activities League Clash on Saturday.

Fennimore edged Rover Valley 296-292 for the championship in the tournament.

Mineral Point (239) took third and Iowa-Grant-Highland was fourth (180.5). Black Hawk-Darlington (134) finished ninth in the 13 team tournament.

Kolbe Ubersox (132) finished third for Black Hawk-Darlington. Teammate Cody Nielsen took fifth at 220 pounds. The Warrior-Redbirds had four wrestlers place sixth including Paul King (126), Grady Rielly (145), Lance Ubersox (160) and Tyler Moesly (182).
