MONONA GROVE - The Monroe girls swimming team closed out the regular season dual meet season with a 102-67 loss to Monona Grove.

"Tonight we were a little off our mark," Monroe coach Linda Moser said. "We swam well, but the PR's were not there.

"The girls were not far off their best times, but as a whole tonight was not meant to be a night of taking off seconds."

Monroe sophomore Rachel Root won the 100 butterfly (1 minute, 2.73 seconds) and the 100 backstroke (1:02.69).

Senior Leanna Schwartzlow finished second in the 100 freestyle (:58.14) and second in the 100 breaststroke (1:12.64).

The Cheesemakers' 200 medley relay team of Sarah Kind, Schwartzlow, Root and Angie Beaver finished second with a time of 2:01.67.

The same quartet finished second in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:50.09.

Senior Nichole Lattin took second in the 200 freestyle (2:17.57), senior Jessica Moehn finished second in the 200 individual medley (2:34.36) and junior Cat Weeden was runner-up in the 500 freestyle (6:06.07). Moehn's time in the 200 IM was a personal record.

Ericah Johnson took two seconds off her 50 free time, Taylor Bryant took a second off of her 100 back time. They were joined by Anika Nelson who had a PR in the 200 IM.

The Cheesemakers are now gearing up for the Platteville Invitational on Saturday.

"We have a lot of work ahead of us to prepare for Saturday's invite at Platteville and the conference meet a week from Friday," Moser said. "The girls have improved on getting their splits closer together and we will continue to work on that as well as fine tune, starts, turns and exchanges. I believe in them and I believe in the potential that lies within each of them."
