ALBANY - Albany senior Cody Schultz struggled with his control but allowed just one earned run in leading the Comets to a 6-2 victory against Pecatonica on Tuesday in Six Rivers East Conference play.
Schultz went the distance, allowing six hits, seven walks and two runs.
"He was having trouble getting on top of hitters and (Vikings coach Jim Strommen) told his guys to sit back and wait," Albany coach Brandon Bakken said. "They put themselves in position to score, but they just couldn't come up with the hit against Cody when they needed one."
Pecatonica scored both its runs in the top of the first, when junior Jake Scoville executed a suicide squeeze punt and sophomore Tyler Hodgson added an RBI single.
Albany tied it in the first on RBI singles by Schultz and sophomore Mitchell Kauk, who went 2-for-3. The Comets scored four runs in the third, two runs scoring on an error, one on a fielder's choice and the fourth on junior Austin Ross' two-out RBI double.
Bakken said freshman second baseman Mitchell Trow made "two great plays to end the fifth and seventh (innings) when Pecatonica was threatening a little bit."
