Schroeder 3-peats as singles champion

MONROE - Al Schroeder won his third straight Monroe City Singles Tournament, knocking off Joe Soddy 6-2, 6-2 on Sunday in the title match at Recreation Park.

It marks Schroeder's 11th overall championship annual class A men's city singles tournament.

Schroeder defeated Silas Setterstrom in the semifinals 6-4, 7-6 (3).

Soddy rolled in his quarterfinal match defeating Frank Meier 6-4, 6-0. In the semifinals, Soddy defeated Chris Garrow 6-4, 6-1.

Setterstrom beat Garrow in a third-place match 6-2, 6-2. Kyle Everson defeated Kevin Noriega 6-0, 6-2 in a consolation final match.

In the women's open tournament, Ellie Grossen captured the championship after defeating Barb Ament in a three-set battle 6-3, 0-6, 6-4. Grossen defeated Pam Kohlstedt 6-1, 6-3 in one semifinal and Ament beat Maggie Setterstrom 6-3, 6-1 in the other semifinal.

Setterstrom beat Kohlstedt in the third-place match 6-1, 5-7, 10-5.

In the consolation final, Hallie Signer defeated Parris Bunker in three sets 4-6, 6-3, 10-8.

Steve Wandfluh won the class B men's singles tournament defeating Austin Lewey 6-2, 6-1. Wandfluh beat Kevin Kohlstedt in the semifinals in three sets 6-2, 5-7, 10-7, while Lewey defeated Nico Leonard 6-0, 6-2.

Kohlstedt won a third-place match by defeating Christopher Andraski 6-1, 6-3.
