BRODHEAD - Take Brodhead's Kristen Ruchti out of the game and the Cardinals still would have avoided the Tide.
Ruchti poured in 19 points to lead the Cardinals to a 53-33 girls basketball victory Tuesday over Rock Valley rival Edgerton on Brodhead's home floor.
Ruchti scored seven of her 19 in the second quarter as Brodhead (5-3 overall, 5-1 Rock Valley Conference) extended its lead on the Crimson Tide (1-11, 1-5) to 30-16 at intermission. Paige Hoeper had all 10 of her points in the first half for the Cardinals.
The Cardinals return to action at home Friday with a tilt against the winless Trojans of Beloit Turner.
