MADISON - Monroe senior Michael Gross will never forget the game against Madison Edgewood last year.

The Cheesemakers lost to the Crusaders and Gross suffered a season-ending injury when he broke his leg.

Fast forward a year, and Gross is back at it again. This year's result was much better for Gross, and the Cheesemakers. Gross scored the game-winning unassisted goal at 61 minutes, 7 seconds to lift the Cheesemakers to a 2-1 win over Madison Edgewood.

"I'm just happy for Mike," Monroe coach Tony Stamm said. "You could just see it in his face, especially after we lost last year."

Monroe senior Lucas Goetz helped the Cheese-makers get on the board when he scored a goal on an assist from Patrick Gellings at 31:20.

Monroe senior goalkeeper Jordan Steurer had 13 saves for the Cheesemakers.

"He did a great job tonight," Stamm said.

Monroe (2-1, 1-0 Badger South) hosts Mount Horeb at 5 p.m. Thursday.
