Redbirds stellar at Darlington Invitational

DARLINGTON - The Darlington boys track team received a stellar performance from junior Mitchell Langkamp at the Darlington Invitational Friday.

Langkamp had a hand in winning four events. Langkamp won the 100 (:11.32) and the triple jump (41-2 1/2). Black Hawk senior Jacob Meier finished first in the long jump (20-0 1/2) and third in the triple jump (38-1 1/4).

Langkamp teamed with Cody Erickson, Levi Wedig and Cedric Flesher to win the 800 relay with a time of 1:37.19, which was about one second ahead of Black Hawk. Langkamp also teamed with Cody Erickson, Matt McDaniel and Flesher to take first in the 1,600 relay with a time of 3:42.71, which was well ahead of Black Hawk (3:55). In the 3,200 relay, Darlington's Quinn Cullen, Robert Martin, Connor Roche and Destin Komprood took first with a time of 8:58.33.

Black Hawk junior Hayden Schliem finished first in the 400 with a time of 52.64 seconds and second in the high jump (5-6). Kyle Woodruff was first in the 300 hurdles (:45.60) and teammate Bryant Luhman was second in the shot put (44-9 3/4). Black Hawk's 400 relay team including Michael Wolff, DeeJay Warrell and Jayden Rufenacht won with a time of 46.97 seconds, which was about a half a second ahead of Darlington. Wolff also finished second in the triple jump (40-8 1/4).

Darlington freshman Tyson Miehe won the 1,600 with a time of 4:43.68, which was about seven seconds ahead of Albany's Reece Whitehead. Whitehead won the 800 (2:07.20) ahead of Roche (2:08.74). Albany's Jose Ramirez took third (2:09.70).

Darlington junior Kent Miehe won the 3,200 with a time of 10:36.31. Wedig won the pole vault (11-0) and Albany senior Josh Krueger was second (10-0).

In the girls meet, Black Hawk senior Rachel Rygh won the 100-meter dash (:12.96) and the 200 (:28.0).

Albany freshman Bailey Hlavachek won the 1,600 with a time of 5 minutes, 37.31 seconds, which was well ahead of Darlington sophomore Cheyenne Wolfe who took second (5:48.20) and Darlington's Christa Wamsley (6:11.62). Hlavachek also finished first in the 800 (2:32) just ahead of teammate Rosy Bauman who took second (2:33.89).

Alison Wedig for the Redbirds won the 400 (1:06.01), which was 0.07 of a second ahead of Rygh who took second. Darlington's Alix Brandt won the 100 hurdles (:17.42) and took second in the 300 hurdles (:53.38). Darlington sophomore Cassidy Chambers won the high jump (5-1) and teammate Chayse Hermanson took the top spot in the triple jump (31-0 3/4).

The Redbirds won three of the four relays. Hermanson teamed with Kayla Lange, Hannah Huffman and Carly Reilly to win the 800 relay in 1:54.05. The trio of Hermanson, Lange and Huffman teamed with Claire Scott to take first in the 1,600 relay with a time of 4:25.03, which was just ahead of Albany. The Redbirds' 3,200 relay team including Claire Cullen, Tatum Evenstad, Hannah Robiolio and Shawni Smith finished first with a time of 10:53.10, which was about five seconds ahead of Albany.

Darlington's Hailey McGowan won the discus (93-1) and teammate Alexa Hardyman was third (83-4). The Redbirds swept the top four spots in the discus. McKenzie Pickett took first in the discus (32-8 3/4) followed by McGowan (30-3 3/4), Kelsey Wiegel (28-0 1/2) and Brianna Reichling (27-6).

Albany's Jessica Mauerman took third in the 300 hurdles (:53.54).

Darlington junior Amy Jorgenson took second in the 3,200 (13:04.20) and Reilly took second in the 200 (:13.03). Darlington's Chelsea Fortin took second in the pole vault (8-0).
