SAINT CHARLES — A 64-50 loss to Little Rock on Saturday, Feb. 25 marked the end of the season for the Lindenwood University women’s basketball team, but more importantly, the end of Emily Benzschawel’s basketball career.

Benzschawel, a 2019 Monroe graduate, signed with Lindenwood University during her senior year. In her four years as a Lion, Benzschawel played 1,048 minutes and scored 331 points. Her senior season — 2022-23 — was arguably her best, as Benzschawel started 18 games and averaged 8.7 ppg.

This year, she had three standout games against Tulsa, Hannibal-La Grange and SIUE. In Lindenwood’s 79-46 loss to Tulsa, Benzschawel scored a career-high 20 points. Ten days later, she shot 72% from beyond the arc, draining five 3-pointers in a 96-36 win over Hannibal-La Grange. In early February, Benzschawel went 4-for-4 from the free throw line with three assists against SIUE. She still holds Monroe’s career free-throw percentage with 91%.

Off the court, she was an Academic All-GLVC honoree in 2019-20 and Academic All-GLVC selection in 2020-21. Benzschawel will graduate in the spring.
