MONTICELLO - Senior Tyler Meier went 4-for-5 as the Monticello baseball team swept a doubleheader from Black Hawk Saturday.
Black Hawk led 2-1 going into the sixth inning, but the Ponies tied it and scored the game-winning run in the seventh to win the first game 3-2. Monticello slugged its way to an 18-4 win in the second game.
Monticello junior Corey McGowan pitched a complete game and gave up two runs on three hits. He struck out six and walked one.
Meier went 2-for-3 and junior Trae Seffrood was 2-for-4 for the Ponies in the first game.
Black Hawk sophomore Michael Walker went the distance and gave up two earned runs on eight hits. He struck out five and walked three.
In the second game of the twin bill, the Ponies pounded out 12 hits and broke the game open with a 10-run fifth.
Monticello's Lukas Kolasch went 4 1/3 innings to get the win. He gave up four runs on two hits. He struck out eight and walked four.
The Ponies had four players with multi-hit games including Meier (2-for-2), junior Tyler Ritschard (2-for-2), McGowan (2-for-3) and senior Michael Elzen (2-for-5).

Darlington's Wade Black earned the win pitching 1 2/3 innings of shutout baseball. Tyler Shager went 2-for-3 and Jason Boll was 2-for-3.
The Redbirds committed four errors in Game 2.
Senior Matt Keister went 2-for-3 and he took the loss on the mound.
