CAMBRIDGE - Bryce Klitzke and Ben May combined to score 42 points to propel the Ponies to a 69-54 win over Cambridge on Friday in the first round of the holiday tournament.

Monticello (9-1, 3-1 Six Rivers East) will play Clinton at 8 p.m. today in the championship of the Cambridge tournament.

"We try to challenge ourselves," Monticello coach Mark Olson said. "You don't find out much about yourself playing an easy schedule. That's why we try to play larger schools and a hard schedule. We want to find out something about ourselves. This tournament is great for that."

Klitzke scored a team-high 22 points and May added 20 points. Senior Jesse Halvorsen added 11 points and Lucas Marty and Aaron Hefty each chipped in eight.

"We did a good job of getting opportunities at the basket and finishing," Olson said.

Olson likes the balanced scoring the Ponies have featured this season.

"We play for the best shot regardless of who shoots it," he said. "We try to share the ball and distribute. That helps a lot of guys be leading scorers."

Brodhead 52, Highland 32

CUBA CITY - Brodhead senior Danny Lewis scored 17 points to help the Cardinals snap a five-game losing streak as they rolled to a 52-32 win over Highland in the second day of the Cuba City Classic.

"Like I told our kids, winning helps a lot of things," Brodhead coach Brian Kammerer said. "It helps our attitude and helps us beleive in each other. You hate to say it was a must win game, but it was. They needed some confidence to get back on track."

Brodhead used a zone throughout the game. Josiah DeLorme scored 14 points and Ned Slocum added nine.

In other action, New Glarus knocked off Benton 58-46.
