Penniston qualifies for state in 200, 400

BANGOR - Pecatonica-Argyle junior Josie Penniston won a title in the 400 (58.52) and took second in the 200 (26.53) at the Bangor track and field sectional Thursday to qualify for the WIAA Division 3 state track meet in both events.

The top four competitors in each event advance to the WIAA state championship June 3-4 at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse's Veterans Memorial Stadium.

The Darlington girls track team qualified its 400, 800 and 3,200 relay teams for state.

Darlington junior Taryn Rankin finished third in the discus (111 feet, 8 inches). Sophomore Reghan Komprood took fourth in the 3,200 (12:28.95).

For the boys, Darlington sophomore Grady Rielly was a sectional champion in the 110 hurdles (15.72) and junior Mitchell Wagner was third (16.26).

Wagner added a fourth-place finish in the high jump (5-10), and junior Conner Hackett took fourth in the 3,200 (10:16.65).

The Redbirds' 800 and 3,200 relay teams both qualified for state. The 3,200 relay team finished third (8:25.50) and the 800 relay team was third (1:35.09).



Princeton-Green Lake sectional

Monticello senior Andy Yaun is heading to state after finishing second in the 400 at the WIAA Division 3 Princeton-Green Lake sectional on Thursday.

Yaun finished second in the 400 with a time of 51.21 seconds.

Both the Albany girls and boys 3,200 relay teams took fourth to qualify for state.
