MONROE - Pecatonica-Argyle senior Josie Penniston has opened eyes on the track the past three years.
In her final prep track season, she has aspirations of raising the bar even higher.
Penniston won the 400-meter dash and 200 at the Richard Glendenning Green-Lafyette County Invitational on Monday. She won the 400 in a time of 1 minute, 2.72 seconds. She won the 200 in 27.42.
The fastest heat of the 400 included four runners from the Vikings. Senior teammate Liz Tisch took second in both the 400 (1:05.61) and 200 (28.30).
"I thought it was really fun," Penniston said. "We still pushed each other to do our best. The 400 is one of the hardest races. It's really a paced sprint. You kind of have to manage your speed without running out of gas."
Penniston, who will attend the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and run track next year, has her sights set at getting back to state in the 400 where she took fourth in Division 3 and in the 200 where she finished fifth last year.
"I just want to do my best and beat my school record from last year," she said. "I've always wanted to run track in college. I love the facility at La Crosse. I love everything about it."
Penniston also has high goals for the Vikings' 1,600 relay team this year.
"I think we can do good this year," she said. "I think once we get our handoffs down we should be pretty strong."
