BARNEVELD - Crown the Eagles kings of the patchwork staff.

After using three pitchers to get past Argyle in Tuesday night's WIAA Division 4 regional baseball semifinals, Barneveld (15-3) used the same trio and got a timely outfield assist to get past Six Rivers East rival Pecatonica, 4-3, in Wednesday's final.

Eagles senior ace Kyle Thompson worked four innings, while Shawn Monson worked two and got the win. Michael Schlimgen logged an inning.

After cutting the lead in half at 4-2 in the top of the sixth on an Andy Dieterich RBI-single, Pec rolled the dice behind coach Jim Strommen. Senior catcher Drew Moen singled to center on a ball that was slowed by the second baseman, but Dieterich was thrown out at the plate by right fielder Jerad Watkins.

"I was sending him with two outs and making them make the throw," Strommen said.

Both teams committed four errors, but made enough sparkling plays to make the game an instant classic.

But, someone always has to lose, particularly when the stage gets bigger.

"When you play in the tourney, unless you win it all, unfortunately your last game ends in a loss," Strommen said.

Pec wraps up with a 12-7 record. Dieterich took the loss after working three-and-a-third innings, while Milton Kurschner worked the rest of the way. Moen had two hits, as did Eagles junior Patrick Clerkin.

DIVISION 4

NO. 1 BURLINGTON CATHOLIC CENTRAL 14, NO. 2 JUDA 4 (5 INNINGS)

It's been a paramount baseball season in Juda and, albeit momentarily, it looked like it might continue Wednesday.

The Panthers were tied with the Hilltoppers in the clubs' regional final, 2-2, through one inning and pulled within one at 5-4 in the top of the fourth.

But the 'Toppers bats woke up when they weren't coaxing walks in an eight-run bottom half that all but put things away.

Juda senior Jacob Ramos worked three innings, during which he issued six walks.

DIVISION 3

NO. 1 MINERAL POINT 9, NO. 3 NEW GLARUS 1

The top-seeded hosts made a point of putting this regional final away early.

SWAL champion Mineral Point scored three times in the first inning off sophomore starter Ryan Bright, and piled on for for more runs in the sixth against the Knights' bullpen.

Kaleb Engelke was effectily wild as he went the distance for the Pointers, fanning a dozen but walking eight.
