BARNEVELD - The Juda Panthers will be playing for a first-ever state tournament appearance. For the first time in school history, the seventh-ranked Panthers advanced to the Division 4 sectional championship with a 3-1 win over Racine Lutheran at Barneveld Tuesday.
The Panthers scored in the second inning to take a 1-0 lead and increased the lead to 3-0 in the fifth inning on a throwing error by the Crusaders, followed by a bases-loaded walk. Juda took advantage of four errors committed by Racine Lutheran.
Despite her team getting just two hits, junior pitcher Amber Ramos made that lead hold up as she struck out 12 Crusaders and allowed no walks and just four hits. Racine Lutheran got a single run in the sixth inning, but that was all the scoring they could do against Ramos, who has allowed just 15 runs in the past 10 games.
Juda (19-4) will face No. 1 ranked Oakfield (24-2) in the Division 4 sectional championship at Beaver Dam at 4:30 p.m. Friday. The winner advances to the state tournament at 11 a.m., June 17, at the Goodman Diamond in Madison.
Oakfield has made eight state tournament appearances and won the Division 4 title in 2009. The Oaks have yet to allow a run so far in the post-season. Juda is vying for its first trip to the state tournament.
