Pair of wins puts Monroe in 2nd

MONROE - The Monroe Optimist moved into second place in the Monroe Area Fastpitch League, with a pair of wins Sunday, July 28.

In the opener, Kady Jordan tossed a one-hitter in a 10-1 win over Warren. Jordan struck out 11 and walked only three in her seven innings of work. Taylor O'Leksy and Samantha Hose each collected two hits and drove in three runs, to lead the offense. Ellyn Grossen, Chandra McGuire and Jordan also added extra base hits for Monroe.

In the second game, Monroe erased an early 1-0 deficit by scoring a pair of runs in both the third and fourth innings, en route to a 5-1 win over Monticello. Natalie Dillon went the distance for Monroe, allowing only one run on three hits while striking out nine. McGuire, Kayla Updike, Kaya Teasdale and Kylea Ambrose collected RBIs in the win.

In other action, Orangeville clinched the league championship win a 6-5 win over Brodhead; Juda defeated Lena, 9-3; Evansville defeated Pecatonica, 16-8; Orfordville beat Warren, 9-2; and Belleville beat Argyle, 9-8.
