ARGYLE - Riley Ostby had a double-double with 24 points and 15 rebounds to lead Argyle to a 53-46 win over Benton in a non-conference season-opener Friday, Nov. 22.
"He's really like a little Charles Barkley," Argyle coach Scott Noll said of the sophomore Ostby. "He's just an undersized kid who is really tenacious. He's a solid all-around player."
The Orioles jumped out to a 15-11 lead in the first quarter and were tied at 23 with the Zephyrs at the half.
The Orioles opened up a lead by outscoring the Zephyrs 15-9 in the third quarter. The Orioles made 13 of 24 free throws, but some big foul shots when it counted most. Ostby made 5 of 7 free throws in the fourth quarter to help seal the win.
"At the end of the game we made some free throws down the stretch," Noll said. "It was a good team win for us."
Argyle's Christopher Severson and Kyle Emberson each scored 11 points. Argyle will host Highland Tuesday, Nov. 26 before a conference game against Black Hawk.
"They (Black Hawk) are the ones we have to get after for that conference title," Noll said. We just want to be out on the court competing and getting better every night."
