OREGON - The Monroe volleyball team didn't need any time to warm-up in the Badger South Conference clash with Oregon on Tuesday.
Monroe knocked off Oregon 27-25 in the first game before the Panthers rallied to win three straight games 25-23, 25-17, 25-19. With the loss, Monroe (9-20, 0-9 Badger South) has lost 26 straight conference matches.
"They came out and played with heart," Monroe coach Danya Ward said. "They were relaxed, pumped up and ready to go."
The Cheesemakers had a 20-16 lead in the second game before the Panthers bounced back.
"They just went on a little run and we couldn't stop them," Ward said. "We had a lot of mistakes in the third game and we let them control the match. We lost stamina. They played the last two games like they were tired."
Monroe junior Whitney Disch had 11 kills, and junior Savannah Koester had eight kills. Senior Heather Barta notched 15 assists and added two blocks. Senior Ashley Curtis had 16 digs, and junior Taylor Barrett added two blocks.
Monroe will look to get back on track on Thursday when they host Stoughton.
"I told them they need to play every point like it's the last one," Ward said.
