MONROE - Orangeville High School Athletic Director Toby Golembiewski Friday was named the next football coach at Monroe.
Jeff Newcomer, interim athletic director for Monroe High School, made the announcement Friday in a press release. Newcomer said Golembiewski will soon be introduced to players and will start building his staff.
Golembiewski has 26 years of coaching experience at the high school, youth and European semi-pro football levels and 15 years as the head coach at Orangeville.
"This is a town rich in football history that can have a rich football future," Golembiewski said. "Football and sports in general are put into the educational setting for a reason: In order to find additional avenues for young people to grow into responsible adults, teaching them such ideals as hard work, commitment, team work, trust, accountability, respect, honesty and pride to name several."
Golembiewski replaces Curt Miller who resigned one week after the football season, citing a need to spend more time with family. Miller guided the Cheesemakers to a second straight 4-5 season last fall. In eight years as head coach, Miller was
23-49 with one playoff appearance in 2012.
Golembiewski started his coaching career as an offensive line coach from 1992-95 at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville where he also played college football. During his time with Platteville, he also spent a few months in Sweden where he coached the Arland Jets of the European semi-pro league. He coached football at Orangeville from 1996 to 2011.
"It is evident that coach Golembiewski has coaching in his blood and that he truly cares about the development of student athletes he works with," Newcomer said. "In our conversations, it became obvious to me that this is a man of character and integrity. This is something that's going to help develop not only the football players on the field but in the classroom and in our community."
