CUBA CITY - New Glarus senior Zach Ketelboeter dazzled Tuesday, pitching a three-hit shutout to lead the Knights to a 3-0 WIAA Division 3 regional baseball semifinal upset of No. 2 seed Cuba City.
Ketelboeter struck out seven and walked none.
"He just pitched one heck of a game," New Glarus coach Warren Howard said.
New Glarus senior Mitch Keegan singled, stole a base and scored on a wild throw in the first inning.
Ketelboeter delivered an RBI-single and Erick Siegenthaler hit a sacrifice fly in the third to extend the Knights' lead to 3-0. They earned the right to face top-seeded Mineral Point on the road today at 4:30 p.m. in a regional title game.
NO. 1 MINERAL POINT 5, NO. 4 DARLINGTON 2
The Redbirds' temporary 2-0 lead came as little surprise to Andy Sawall Tuesday evening.
Darlington jumped on the Pointers with two runs in the first, but starter Bo Doney settled in, not allowing a run the rest of the way.
Doney's offense arrived in the fifth inning when it caught up with Darlington junior Taylor Wiegel. Mineral Point scored three times in the fifth and twice in the sixth. The Redbirds were swept by the Pointers in the SWAL regular-season series, but put them on the ropes in a 3-2 decision during the second half of a doubleheader.
Wiegel and Kyle Calvert had two hits apiece, as did Kaleb Engelke and Jordan Schmitz for the Pointers.
