WISCONSIN DELLS - New Glarus junior Colton Boley made big plays at key moments to lead the Glarner Knights boys basketball team to a thrilling 66-65 overtime win over Wisconsin Dells Saturday, Dec. 21.
Wisconsin Dells (3-5) jumped out to a 13-8 lead in the first quarter and the Chiefs had a seven-point lead at the half. The Glarner Knights trailed 44-38 entering the fourth quarter.
The Knights (2-5) outscored the Chiefs 22-16 in the fourth quarter to force overtime. Boley drilled a 3-pointer late in regulation to tie the game at 60 to force overtime.
Boley had a steal and layup with about 20 seconds in overtime to give the Knights a one point lead. Boley had a key rebound and made two free throws with less than 10 seconds to go to seal the win for the Knights.
The Knights had four players foul out including starters Gavin Binger, Austin Schlueter and Matrell Dixon. The Chiefs did most of their damage from the free throw line hitting 33 of 39.
"They found a way to win," New Glarus coach Travis Skysko said. "We lost three close games earlier this year that we felt we let get away. It's good to see those other guys off the bench step up and help us get a win."
Binger scored a team-high 17 points and Colton Boley added 15 points to lead the Knights. The Knights hit six 3-pointers. New Glarus seniors Caleb Fredrickson and Schlueter each added nine points. It was a balanced attack for the Knights. Schlueter hit three 3-pointers and Boley made two 3-pointers.
"I don't think we have to rely on one player to do the scoring for us," Sysko said. "We have a group of guys who can carry us on any given night. It's just a matter of who has the hot hand."
New Glarus will host Argyle at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 27 in a non-conference game.
