MONTICELLO - The Monticello boys basketball team struggled shooting from the free-throw line, but the Ponies made the foul shots when it mattered most Tuesday and pulled out a 49-35 nonconference win over Belmont.
The Ponies shot 43.3 percent from the free-throw line (13 of 30) but got big performances from junior Jon Errthum, who scored a game-high 18 points, and freshman Reece Rufer, who added 11 points.
The Braves cut the Ponies lead to five points, 37-32, with 7 minutes to go. Monticello (1-5) closed the game with a 12-3 run with most of the points coming from the foul line.
Monticello junior Travis McCoy scored eight points and hit two 3-pointers, and senior Zach Price chipped in seven points.
Belmont's Colin Austin scored a team-high 12 points.
Lakeside Lutheran 82, New Glarus 64
NEW GLARUS - New Glarus sliced a 20-point halftime deficit to single digits, but Lakeside Lutheran's Cam Kuepers exploded for a game-high 42 points to lead the Warriors to a nonconference win.
New Glarus coach Travis Sysko said Lakeside Lutheran held on by going 12 of 13 at the free-throw line down the stretch.
New Glarus sophomore Jaden Kreklow scored a team-high 30 points. Junior Cullen Brooks added 12 points, and Dishawn Gale chipped in nine points.
New Glarus drops to 4-1.
Darlington 78, Mineral Point 58
MINERAL POINT - Darlington senior Josh Soper scored a game-high 20 points and the Redbirds, ranked second in Division 4 on the Wissports.net coaches poll, rolled to a Southwest Wisconsin Activities League win over rival Mineral Point.
Darlington (4-0, 2-0 SWAL) built a 16-point halftime lead and stayed on top in the league with the win.
Darlington senior Ryan Glendenning added 17 points and hit three 3-pointers. Senior Will Schwartz chipped in 10 points for the Redbirds.
Chance Wendhuasen scored 13 points, and Jack Warrick added 12 points for the Pointers.
