JUDA - The Monticello volleyball team is one step closer to clinching a Six Rivers East Conference championship.
Monticello (12-2, 9-0 Six Rivers East) defeated Juda in three sets 25-19, 25-15, 25-12 Tuesday, Oct. 8.
"There is a reason they are undefeated in the conference," Juda coach Scott Anderson said. "Monticello covers unbelievably and blocks hard."
Monticello senior Marissa Berg had 15 kills and four blocks. Monticello junior Paige Dilley added seven kills. Monticello senior Clare Bruns had 29 assists and junior Jordan Garrison had 13 digs.
Juda junior Morgan Adkins had 11 digs and senior Tabatha Davis had 10 digs.
Black Hawk 3, Pecatonica 0
BLANCHARDVILLE - Black Hawk used some aggressive serving to roll past Pecatonica in three sets 25-17, 25-12, 25-19.
"Black Hawk had some good servers who could place the ball," Pecatonica coach Tori Leonard said. "They found some of our weaknesses and scored points. I felt like we were able to compete with them a little bit. They (Black Hawk) are a tough competition for us."
Black Hawk senior Mikayla Sigafus had a match-high six kills. Black hawk junior Alexis Warrell had nine assists and seniors Nicole Diehl and Tessa Cushman each had three aces. Black Hawk's Sam Lovelace and Angel Paul each had one block.
Pecatonica was led by Britt Miller who had four kills and seven blocks. Pecatonica senior Emily Gruenenfelder had a team-high 10 digs. Clare Moen had five assists and Erin Kleppe had two aces for the Vikings. With the loss, Pecatonica drops to 0-14, 0-10.
Brodhead 3, Clinton 2
CLINTON - The Cardinals went the distance, but were able to pull out a thrilling five set win over Clinton 25-16, 21-25, 22-25, 25-16, 15-12.
"It was a confidence booster to be able to win that fifth game," Brodhead coach Erin Kammerer said.
Brodhead senior Carly Mohns had a team-high 16 kills and senior Rachel Heller had 14. With the win, Brodhead improved to 20-3, 7-2 Rock Valley South.
Heller had a team-high 26 digs and Mohns added 18 digs and three blocks. Brodhead junior Payton Wright racked up 19 assists and she as well as sophomore Kylie Moe each had six aces.
Her (Wright) serving string gave us some momentum and sent us in the right direction," Kammerer said.
It was Moe's serving that closed out the win in the decisive fifth set.
"I told her she was the one person I would want on the line in that situation," Kammerer said.
Wisc. Heights 3, New Glarus 1
MAZOMANIE - The Glarner Knights forced a fourth set against Wisconsin Heights, but lost to the Vanguards 25-11, 25-19, 24-26, 25-17.
New Glarus sophomore Maddie Macht had eight kills, three blocks and 13 digs. New Glarus junior Breanne Kreklow racked up 26 assists and senior Sierra Watrud had a team-high 19 digs. Senior Karina Moen led the Knights with two aces. With the loss, New Glarus drops to 4-4 in the Capitol South Conference.
