EAST TROY - Monroe High School junior Silas Setterstrom is heading to the WIAA Division 2 state tennis tournament.

Setterstrom placed third in No. 1 singles at the Division 2 East Troy sectional on Wednesday to qualify for state. Setterstrom defeated Sam Bucheger 7-6 (2), 7-5 in his first match, which lasted more than two hours, to lock up a state berth. McFarland's Zach Witt then beat Setterstrom 6-1, 6-0. Setterstrom then defeated Whitewater's Brodie Runez 6-2, 6-1.

"It was not an easy feat to get third today," Monroe coach Ashley Hermanson said. "The second match against McFarland's Zach Witt was one of Silas' greatest matches. His third match was an easier feat. He got in a great rhythm early on and took the win."

The individual Division 2 state tennis tournament is June 2-4 at the University of Wisconsin's Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison.
