MONROE - The Monroe Brewers overcame a sluggish defensive game to hand Argyle a 9-1 loss in Western Section Home Talent League action Sunday.

The Monroe Brewers (3-1) committed nine errors. The Brewers allowed the Argyle lead-off man to reach on an error in six of the first seven innings, but the Beavers couldn't push across a run despite the miscues.

"This goes against all baseball history," Monroe co-player manager Lon Scheuerell said. "That's kind of sad that happened."

Rooney Janecke, the Brewers co-player manager, went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and Justin Hahn was 2-for-3.

Cody Boals pitched seven innings of shutout baseball to get the win for the Brewers. He gave up just one hit, struck out two and walked three.

Argyle's Jared Bauman pitched six innings and gave up two earned runs and struck out nine. Argyle committed six errors.

The Brewers jumped out to a 3-0 first inning lead by forcing the issue with four stolen bases in the first.

Hahn singled and stole second in the first. Janecke then delivered an RBI double to score Hahn. Scheuerell knocked in the second run on a fielder's choice. Mike Cleary then walked and stole second. Ben Korth then followed with an RBI single to give the Brewers a 3-1 lead. Bauman walked Scott White. On a double steal, Korth scored when the throw sailed into center field.

In the seventh, Monroe alum Nate Barta was hit by a pitch. After two Argyle errors fielding sacrifice bunts, the Brewers had the bases loaded. Janecke then delivered a two-run single.

"That was a big hit," Scheuerell said.

The Brewers host New Glarus Sunday and then host Ridgeway on Memorial Day.
