JANESVILLE - The Monroe boys soccer team defeated host Janesville Parker 3-1 Friday.
Junior Nick Schumacher had a positive supporting role, assisting in two of the goals for Monroe. The first came at 14:23, when Aaron Ziolkowski booted the ball into Parker's net. But he wasn't done yet. Ziolkowski came charging back for a second goal, snagging a deflection to put the Cheesemakers up 2-0 at 38:20.
Coach Tony Vasquez saw his team perform well as a unit.
"They were really trying to take away Nick," Vasquez said. "Aaron knew they were trying to take away Nick and he got into positions to get the ball. He was aggressive. They talked and communicated really well."
Parker managed to knock in a goal of their own, leaving the match 2-1 at halftime.
Schumacher wanted another chance to help his team in the second half. An assist to junior Daniel Lapp put the Cheesemakers up 3-1 to pad the lead.
Junior Deven Schulte protected the net well with six saves, holding off impending Parker players throughout the match.
Monroe is now 4-3-2 overall and 1-0 in the Badger South Conference.
