Monroe slugs to pair of wins

MONROE - The Monroe Brewers picked up a pair of Sunday Home Talent League wins over Memorial Day weekend. On Sunday, the Brewers blanked New Glarus, 6-0. Monroe then picked up a come-from-behind win over Ridgeway Monday, 3-2.

Monday's game

Monroe 3, Ridgeway 2

MONROE - Cody Boals allowed a two-run home run to Ridgeway's Sam Halverson in the first inning, but soon settled down. Boals allowed just two hits in the game, but none after the first inning. He struck out 12 and walked just two.

Adam Scherer drove in Ben Korth in the fifth inning for Monroe, bringing the deficit to 2-1.

In the ninth, Mike Cleary led off with a double and Rooney Janecke was hit by a pitch. Lon Scheuerell then dropped a sacrifice bunt, but Ridgeway tried to get Cleary at third, only for Cleary to be called safe. Ridgeway's Zak Arneson, who pitched all eight innings coming into the ninth, was ejected for arguing.

Korth walked in a run with one out and Boals cemented his defensive cause with the game-winning, walk-off RBI single.

Cleary was 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles to lead Monroe; Scherer was also 2-for-4.

MONROE - Justin Hahn picked up the win on the hill for the Brewers, striking out seven and allowing just five hits and no walks in nine innings of work.

The Brewers scored its first run in the bottom of the first off Monroe graduate Mike Rear, who took the loss on the bump for the Tourists.

Monroe scored another run on an Adam Siegenthaler single in the fourth and plated four more runs in the sixth. Korth had an RBI double, Scherer had an RBI single and Hahn also picked up an RBI.

The Brewers next will travel to Wiota June 6.
