MONROE - The Monroe High School girls basketball team's postseason destination was revealed Sunday when the WIAA released regional quarterfinal playoff seeds and matchups.

Monroe (9-12, 3-8 Badger South) received a No. 8 seed in the top half of the Middleton Division 2 sectional. The Cheesemakers will host Mount Horeb (6-14) in a regional quarterfinal game at 7 p.m. Feb. 23. It will mark the fourth straight time Monroe has faced Mount Horeb in a regional quarterfinal and the Cheesemakers are winless in the first three games.

"I was hoping we would get a No. 8 seed," Monroe coach Sam Mathiason said. "I'm really proud of the team that all the hard work they have put in earned them a home game in the first round. Seeing them (Mount Horeb) for the fourth time in a row is a little crazy you have that matchup again."

Mount Horeb has just one returning starter from last season's team in junior Nikki Arneson. Mathiason went to the Mount Horeb game at McFarland Monday to scout the Vikings.

"Hopefully, we will get a scouting report on them," Mathiason said. "Watching them in person is a lot different than watching them on tape."

Division 3

Brodhead (17-3, 13-2 Rock Valley South) received a No. 3 seed in the Sun Prairie sectional and received a first-round bye. Brodhead will play the winner of Clinton and Lakeside Lutheran in a regional semifinal game at 7 p.m. Feb. 26 in Brodhead.

Whitewater (19-1), the defending Division 3 state champion, received the No. 1 seed and could face the Cardinals in a sectional semifinal for the second straight year.

"Getting the No. 3 seed is a lot of respect from coaches who think we are deserving of that," Brodhead coach Brian Kammerer said.

However, only two of the teams in Brodhead's half of the sectional have losing records, and Lakeside Lutheran is 18-3 and a No. 6 seed.

"Our sectional is very brutal in terms of competition," Kammerer said.

Division 4

New Glarus (17-4) also received a No. 3 seed and has a first-round bye. The Glarner Knights will play the winner of sixth-seeded Belleville and No. 11 seed Parkview at 7 p.m. Feb. 26.

Mineral Point (18-2) received the No. 1 seed. Ninth-seeded Darlington will play a regional quarterfinal game at eighth-seeded Waterloo at 7 p.m. Feb. 23. If the Redbirds win, they will face conference rival Mineral Point in a regional semifinal Feb. 26.

Division 5

Coaches in the Watertown sectional did Black Hawk no favors by giving the Warriors a No. 4 seed despite a 12-9 record and a marquee win over Randolph. Fall River (17-4), which made a run to the state tournament last year, is the No. 1 seed. Randolph (14-5) is the No. 2 seed followed by Hustisford (15-6) at No. 3.

Black Hawk will host Madison Country Day in a regional quarterfinal at 7 p.m. Feb. 23.

Fifth-seeded Rio will host No. 12 Argyle. If Argyle (3-18) can upset Rio, the Orioles would get a rematch against Black Hawk.

Albany (5-16) received a No. 9 seed and will play at No. 8 Williams Bay Feb. 23. If Albany wins, the Comets would face Fall River in a regional semifinal game Feb. 26.

Juda (8-9) received a No. 6 seed and will host No. 10 seed Cambria-Friesland. If the Panthers win, they would play at Randolph Feb. 26.

Barneveld (20-0), the two-time Division 5 state champions, received a No. 1 seed in the Richland Center sectional. Barneveld will host No. 16 Pecatonica at 7 p.m. Feb. 23.
