SPRING GREEN - With 12 teams in sectional play in Spring Green, the Monroe boys golf team faced a tough field of competition in determining who would go on to compete at state. Unfortunately for the eighth-ranked Cheesemakers, their season ended on Wednesday, as Monroe failed to record a top-two finish in either the team or individual portion in order to advance to the state meet at University Ridge.
River Valley won the team sectional play with a combined low score of 300, which was 10 shots lower than second-place Edgewood. Monroe (342) finished sixth as a team. Senior Eric Timm ended his stellar prep career with a 78, which was tied for the 12th-best individual score. Both Nick Baumann and Matt Miller shot an 81, while Kyle Krebs finished with a 102.
Brodhead senior John Rudyanski shot a 90 in sectional play.
In Division 3 action, the Argyle-Pecatonica boys golf team just narrowly missed out on making the cut in the team standings at Green Lake. Argyle-Pec finished with a team score of 358, finishing just behind Lancaster (321), and Osseo-Fairchild (334). Argyle-Pec sophomore Mitchell Steiner led his team with a low two-round score of 85, while teammates, Christopher Severson (89), Matthew Severson (92), and Zach Shilling (92) rounded out the rest of the team's scores.
Darlington senior A.J. Brandt shot a 96.
