Monroe Golf: Conference dual like a death marsh

MADISON - Slow and plodding would only begin to describe the Cheesemakers' Badger dual golf meet loss to McFarland at Yahara Hills on Thursday evening.

Monroe dropped a 154-165 decision to the Spartans, who didn't seem to be as fazed by the spongy conditions as the Cheesemakers.

"It was like playing in a swamp, honestly," Jackson said. "But McFarland got it done and we didn't."

Zach Beuchel had the finest round among the murk, as he shot a 38 for McFarland.

Junior Mitch McArdle led Monroe with a 39 and senior ace Gary Petit carded a 40. No. 3 Brandon Wilson (42), No. 4 Alex Holmes (44) and Aaron Krattiger (49) rounded out a list of scorers with whom Jackson didn't hide his frustration.

"Those mid-40s ... we're going to have to be more consistent if we want to win, that's all that's to it," Jackson said.

Weather permitting, Monroe takes aim, along with Brodhead, at today's Beloit Turner Inviational at Krueger-Haskill at noon.
