MONONA - A short-handed Monroe girls swimming team lost a dual meet to Monona Grove 133-34 Tuesday, Sept. 17.
The Cheesemakers were down two swimmers for most of the dual meet.
"We are still battling the cold/flu virus," Monroe coach Linda Moser said. "This really takes a toll on relays and trying to figure out the best configuration when they are on the verge of getting sick and their performance in the water is directly affected. But like I said earlier, better now than in late October and November."
Monroe freshman Skylar Lassen finished second in the 500-yard freestyle with a personal record time of 6 minutes, 25.83 seconds, which was a PR by 12 seconds. Monica Sefcik took third in the 500 freestyle (6:45.45), which was a PR by one second.
Monroe senior Angie Beaver finished third in the 200 freestyle (2:23.53) with a PR of two seconds and third in the 100 backstroke (1:13.96).
Abby Oudinot who swam two of her races and then left because of illness still improved her 50 freestyle time by .50 of a second. Sam Hose improved her 100 freestyle by 10 seconds and she is joined by teammates Amanda Putz who improved by almost two seconds and Mary Kelly who improved by about two seconds. Grace Moehn improved her 100 breaststroke by one second.
