REEDSBURG - Monroe senior Austin Minder and freshman David Andrews both went undefeated at the Reedsburg Duals Saturday, Dec. 7.

Minder at 195 pounds and Andrews (113) both finished 4-0 Saturday. Minder is 5-0 this season and now has four pins.

The Cheesemakers (0-5) lost four dual matches, but lost just 42-34 to Oregon and that was with four forfeits. The Cheesemakers opened the season Friday, Dec. 6 and lost to Oregon 52-21. The Cheesemakers won five of the nine matches against the Panthers Saturday.

"We actually out-wrestled them in actual matches wrestled," Monroe coach Tom Witt said. "It's a big improvement. We came back and got better after the first time we wrestled them."

Minder posted three pins and defeated Reedsburg's Dylan LeMoine 7-4. Andrews defeated Westby's Cole Johnson 4-1 and won a major decision over Oregon's Christopher Haggerdy 15-6.

The other dual match losses for the Cheesemakers included Pioneer-Westfield (39-25), Reedsburg (61-15) and Westby (39-18). The Cheesemakers have five freshmen and two sophomores in their wrestling lineup.

"As a team, forfeiting four weights is a tough hole to battle out of," Witt said. "We are very young and inexperienced. The goal is to get better every time we step on the mat and I feel we are doing that."

Sophomore Traiten Gorr (182) and senior Brett Zimmerman (heavyweight) each went 3-1 in Reedsburg. Zimmerman, a WIAA Division 2 state qualifier last year, had his only loss Saturday to Westby's Chase Nattestad who finished second at 220 in the Division 3 state meet last year. Nattestad pinned Zimmerman in 2:16. Zimmerman racked up three pins in his other matches.

Gorr was able to avenge a loss to Oregon's Andrew Nyenhuis. After losing to Nyenhuis in the season-opener, Gorr beat him 3-0. He edged Westfield's Tanner Akers 7-5 and pinned Westby's Zach Shaha in 3:26.

Freshman Cole Murray (126) finished 2-2. He defeated Westfield's Lucas Nelson 13-3 and lost a nail-biter to Westby's Brett Cade 4-3. Murray was pinned by Reedsburg's Wyatt Rabuck in 4:56 and he won a match by forfeit.

Monroe will host Milton Friday, Dec. 13. The Red Hawks are coming off a 42-12 win over Fort Atkinson, the Badger South Conference champ last year.

"They (Milton) are very strong top to bottom," Witt said. "We just have to work hard to make it competitive."
