MADISON - While temperatures roared into the 60's and 70's Thursday at Yahara Golf Course, Monroe's ball-strikers were chilling in the 30's and low 40's.
As a result, they nearly kept pace with the Crusaders in a Badger Conference meet but fell short, 163-156.
Gary Petit matched Edgewood's Cody Strang, as both posted 37s to share medalist honors. Brandon Wilson carded a 40 for Monroe and junior Mitch McArdle finished with a 42. Aaron Krattiger added a 44 to round out Monroe's four counted scores.
Monroe's junior-varsity team fell by a larger margin of 211-157
"It was not a bad outing for our first of the year, however we have a lot of room for improvement," Monroe assistant coach Jeriamy Jackson said.
Monroe takes aim at the Evansville Invitational at noon today, along with local squads New Glarus and Brodhead.
