CAMBRIDGE - Monticello junior Ben May and Brent Klitzke delivered down the stretch and led the Ponies to a 64-57 overtime win over Cambridge in the Holiday tournament Saturday, Dec. 28.

May scored a game-high 24 points and senior Lucas Marty added 19 points. May drilled a 3-pointer with 2 minutes, 25 seconds left in the fourth quarter to tie the game at 46. May also scored on a layup with 5 seconds to go to tie the game at 49 to force overtime.

"After losing the other night and being down at halftime we had to find the guts and the heart to fight back," Monticello coach Mark Olson said. "Ben honestly had some clutch shots. The layup was set up by some good teamwork. He got a screen from Logan Marty and a pass from Lucas Marty. Ben is a good scorer."

In the extra session, Klitzke hit a 3-pointer and the Ponies made their free throws down the stretch to build a 10-point lead. The Ponies made 12 of 14 free throws in overtime. Klitzke finished with 16 points.

With the win, Monticello improves to 3-3, 1-1 Six Rivers East. Monticello will play at Brodhead Friday.

"Going to their house will be tough," Olson said. "I know they have the Slocum kid who is putting up big points."
